Sr. Michelle Hayek Educator Scholarship Fund

Sr. Michelle Hayek, Norte Dame Sister, was a long time member of Bishop Neumann High School serving in many roles.  She began her association as principal in the fall of 1978.  She was known for her ability to help develop teachers and in encouraging and advising them to be all that they can be.  She also was instrumental in finding the best in her students as well.  She could be stern when needed but she also could find the joy in each individual, faculty and student, she came in contact with. She never failed to find a way to encourage all to find their true vocation to serve.

She was a wonderful supporter of all areas of school life, sports and the fine arts.  She didn’t miss too many events over the many years associated with Bishop Neumann High School. She was always supportive of the coaches and the students no matter what the season brought their way.

One of her special groups that she was instrumental in starting was the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Society.  She helped young women to develop their desire to help those less fortunate.  The members helped at both St. Wenceslaus and St. John’s school by weekly helping in the classrooms.  They made and attended to the residents at Saunders House, South Haven and Saunders County Care Center.  They participated in various religious events at school; All School Mass and Lenten activities. They had a yearly retreat and a yearly clothing drive.  At Christmas they would purchase gift for families in need.  To raise funds for their projects they helped to run concession at various sporting events.  Her example as moderator of this group was an outreach of her living her faith and sharing it with all those she came in contact with.

In addition to her role as principal at Bishop Neumann High School she served as Development Director, Alumnae Director, Religion Teacher as well as a substitute teacher.  She also volunteered at St. Wenceslaus School, listening to the young students read.

Sr. Michelle will be remember for her undying service in all areas of Bishop Neumann High School.
