Tending Roses Scholarship at Saunders Catholic Schools
The Tending Roses Scholarship at Saunders Catholic Schools is a heartfelt initiative established by the Sandy Spangler Family, dedicated to supporting students in need. While Sandy spearheaded the scholarship, she gives credit to the Saunders County community and the Holy Spirit, acknowledging that much of the funds donated to start this endeavor were contributed by the generous members of the community. This scholarship is rooted in the principles of faith, education, and community, drawing inspiration from the profound devotion to Our Lady of the Rosary.
The rosary holds a special place in Sandy’s heart, as her grandmother, Dr. Ann Wiegers, shared this devotion with her. Although the initial introduction and subsequent sharing of the rosary were met with resistance, Sandy and her siblings gradually came to appreciate its significance. Unbeknownst to them, God was planting the seed of devotion in their young hearts, which would later provide solace during life’s most challenging moments.
Recalling the words of Father Faulkner during a Mass in October 2019, where he emphasized that “faith is caught, not taught,” Sandy embarked on her journey of creating personalized rosaries under the name Tending Roses. This venture became her way of sowing and cultivating the beautiful devotion passed down by her grandmother.
Over time she reflected on this treasured gift, she recognizes that the inheritance of faith transcends material wealth, enduring for eternity. Through the Tending Roses Facebook page, she aims to foster an interactive platform where individuals can share their rosary stories, explore personalized rosaries adorned with various beads and metals, and contribute to the Tending Roses Scholarship at Saunders Catholic Schools. This scholarship fund was established to aid a family facing extraordinary financial need, mirroring the support Sandy once received while sending her own children to Saunders Catholic Schools.

Applications must be submitted to the Bishop Neumann Development Office before September 8, which coincides with Mary’s birthday. The Sandy Spangler Family will announce the scholarship recipient on October 7th, the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.
