What is an Endowment?
An endowment is an act of philanthropy in which funds or assets are donated to a nonprofit organization, like our school. The investment income generated from these assets is used for a specific purpose, while the principal amount remains intact. This portfolio of investable assets supports the organization’s long-term operations and programs in alignment with the donor’s intentions. In our case, the investment returns are directed toward ensuring the future of the school.
Why Establish an Endowment?
- Financial Stability: An endowment provides a reliable, lasting source of income, supporting our long-term financial independence.
- Fiscal Empowerment: It enables us to make independent financial decisions that align with our organizational goals and mission.
- Enhanced Legacy: An endowment strengthens our reputation in the community, demonstrating our commitment to sustainability. It also invites future benefactors to contribute to our cause.
How Are Funds from the Bishop Neumann Endowment Utilized?
The Bishop Neumann endowment follows a standard practice of allocating only 5% of the total principal or vested value annually, which accounts for about 8% of the school’s operational income. These funds, as reflected on our balance sheet, are used to support ongoing operations. This careful approach helps keep tuition affordable for families and strengthens our budget by ensuring a steady cash flow.
How Can You Contribute to the Endowment’s Success?
You can join our Legacy Society by including Bishop Neumann High School or its endowment in your will, estate plans, or through planned giving. This thoughtful act helps secure the stability and growth of our Saunders Catholic community. Other meaningful ways to contribute include donating property during your lifetime and exploring the benefits that extend to your estate after your passing.
